A fabulous smoky topaz necklace from the Victorian?(ca1880) era! This unique piece is comprised of a strand of rich, chocolatey brown?smoky topaz beads that meet in the middle at a large smoky topaz pendant. The large oval-shaped pendant is beautifully faceted along the sides and back, and riveted into the center is a hand-carved?beetle with bent wire legs and antennae made of silver.?Each topaz bead has an elongated shape with a multi-faceted surface, giving them a wonderful light reflecting quality. Collectively, they graduate slightly in size, with the smallest beads framing the pendant at the center and the larger beads strung towards the back. The beads are hand strung on beige thread and three small glass spacer beads rest in between each. The necklace fastens at a spring ring which also attaches to the bail of the pendant, allowing you to remove the piece and wear the beads alone or even attach a different complimentary pendant if desired. A?magnificent statement piece, it looks incredible when worn and would make an eye-catching addition to any collection!
Measurements: The beaded necklace measures approximately 15.5" long. The beetle pendant hangs 2" long, is 1 1/4" wide and 3/4" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the necklace?is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent?damage to the smoky topaz and glass beads and the stringing is secure and in fine condition. There are a few very small chips along the edge of the topaz pendant, however, they are not noticeable when the necklace is worn. The sterling clasp fastens securely and is in good working condition.
